Description:
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Underwriting to lead our underwriting team with our Payments Division. Reporting to the Payments Risk Manager, this role focuses on a sound and risk-informed underwriting approach for Sponsored Partners and their clients, process and technology optimization to enhance underwriting efficiency and accuracy, and leading a team of skilled underwriters. The ideal candidate will drive growth through effective risk assessment, team leadership, and efficient and innovative processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of underwriters, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to staff.
- Underwriting Process: Oversee and manage risk-based underwriting processes. Utilize data analysis to continuously assess current processes and recommend actionable changes to improve processes.
- Technology Management: Oversee the management of the underwriting technologies ensuring it meets the team's needs and supports process optimization. Collaborate with current vendors to implement system upgrades and enhancements.
- Risk Assessment: Lead the evaluation of partners and their merchants/clients, ensuring compliance with card brand requirements, company policies, and risk management best practices. Make informed underwriting decisions, leveraging available data.
- Growth Strategy: Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute strategies that promote growth in the Payments Division. Analyze industry and partner trends, as well as card brand requirements, to drive underwriting strategies.
- Reporting and Analysis: Generate regular reports on underwriting metrics, team performance, and process effectiveness. Use insights to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business development, operations, risk and compliance teams to align underwriting processes with business objectives. Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding underwriting-related inquiries.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in underwriting, preferably with a Sponsor Bank, or within the Payments/Merchant Services industry.
- Proven leadership and management experience.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions. Ability and willingness to identify and implement process improvements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on building relationships.
- Experience with underwriting technologies and data analysis tools a plus.
- Strong understanding of underwriting/ risk management principles and compliance requirements within payments processing.
- Proficiency with business applications including CRM, Microsoft Office.
